What is HTTPS and SSL certificates?

Now days many of sites including facebook started using HTTPS support. This is many people does not understand.HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol with the SSL provide encrypted communication with protected identification of network. SSL means Secure Socket Layer which one can say measure for internet security. It is identity of a website we visit.

All websites when opened by the browser exchange the data with browser and also data excahange took place in network itself. The certificate is a proof than the information is given by you that is by the trusted source i.e. only you are in connection for that account and no other using your data.

Now to secure online transaction, almost all organizations are using this HTTPS protocol so that their online money transaction must be secure and not interupted by any third party. Thus for such organization SSL certificates are essential.

If the URL adress shows HTTPS at the begining menas a normal http with 's', it means such sites have the SSL certificate. Another way to identify wheather a website using secure connection or not is to check for the small symbol of lock at the adress bar and somtimes https is cut by red line through, it means the certificate is not verified the browser. Now a days online shopping sites and web hosting companies using HTTPS.
